ŠMC vasaros parodų sezoną tęsiame trečiuoju solo projektu – vokiečių fotografo Jocheno Lemperto analoginių fotografijų parodos „Fenotipas“, instaliuotos ŠMC Didžiojoje salėje, atidarymu. Savo darbuose Lempert tyrinėja sąsajas tarp žmogaus ir gamtos pasaulių, o taip pat – žiūrėjimo, žmogaus žvilgsnio ir buvimo matomu temas. Drauge jo darbai tarsi meta iššūkį antropocentriniam žvilgsniui į pasaulį.

Jochen Lempert studijavo biologiją, kurį laiką dirbo Friedrich-Wilhelms universitete Bonoje ir tuo pat metu, XX a. 9-ajame dešimtmetyje, kaip eksperimentinio kino grupės „Schmelzdahin“ narys, kūrė filmus „super 8“ juosta, eksperimentuodamas su filmavimo, montažo ir juostų ryškinimo metodais bei tyrinėdamas bakteriologinio irimo ir chemikalų poveikį juostai. Nuo tada Lempert tyrinėja įvairių gyvybės formų gyvavimo ir sugyvenimo būdus ir pavidalus, o taip pat – materialias fotografinio atvaizdo savybes. Ši mokslo ir meno sąjunga Lemperto darbuose išskiria jo figūrą šiuolaikinės fotografijos ir meno kontekste.

Jocheno Lemperto kūryba šiandien itin aktuali žvelgiant iš šiandieninio pasaulio iššūkių perspektyvos, t.y. neišvengiamos būtinybės surasti naują pusiausvyrą ekologinių ir socialinių, tarpusavio santykių kontekste. Ir nors jo fotografijos nesiekia šių tikslų tiesiogiai, jos geba pažadinti kitokio, jautresnio ir atviresnio, matymo ir susietumo patirties galimybę.

CAC’s summer exhibition season continues with the opening of our third solo project – ‘Phenotype’ – an exhibition of analogue photography by German photographer Jochen Lempert, installed in the CAC’s Great Hall. In his work Lempert explores the interrelations of the human and natural world as well as themes of looking, being seen and the human gaze. Challenging, perhaps, our anthropocentric gaze of the world.

A biologist by training, Jochen Lempert worked during the 1980s at Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn while at the same time collaborating with the film group Schmelzdahin with whom he carried out research in the fields of shooting, montage and material processing. Together they produced a set of experimental films in super-8 based on the effects of bacteriological decomposition and the chemical alterations of film. Since then, Jochen Lempert has continued his research on life and the coexistence of life forms through his photographic practice as well as an exploration of the properties and materiality of the photographic image. This cross-over of science and art distinguishes Lempert’s oeuvre in the context of contemporary photography and art.

Jochen Lempert’s work is pertinent in the context of the challenges we face today, i.e. an inevitable necessity to find a new equilibrium within ecological, social and interpersonal relations. And although his photographs do not aim to perform this task directly, they carry an ability to awaken a different kind of seeing and connection, one that is more delicate and open.
