One More Billion Problems? ø Muzikos ruduo 2024
Vyriausybės kultūros ir meno premijos laureatai styginių kvartetas „Chordos“ pristato išskirtinio potyrio kūrybinį projektą – kompozitoriaus Mato Drukteinio garso ir vaizdo medijas sujungiantį imersinį kūrinį „One More Billion Problems?“, išsiskleisiantį ypatingos akustikos Liepkalnio vandens saugykloje.
Kūrinys „One More Billion Problems?“ kviečia keliauti per moderniojo žmogaus (Homo sapiens sapiens) istoriją nuo tūkstantmečių prieš mūsų erą iki netolimos ateities, stebint Žemės gyventojų populiacijos skaičiaus kaitą. 2022 metų pabaigoje Žemės gyventojų skaičius perkopė 8 milijardus. Tyrinėdamas nuolatinį žmonių skaičiaus augimą, kompozitorius įgarsina tendencijoms įtaką darančius istorinius, dabarties ir galimos ateities procesus, atskleisdamas kintančios aplinkos, visuomenių sanklodos, technologinius ar kitokius veiksnius.
Kartu kūrinys dėmesį atkreipia ir išryškina šiandieninius iššūkius, kurie sietini būtent su itin didelio žmonių populiacijos skaičiumi: aprūpinimas maistu bei geriamo vandens ištekliais, tolygi ekonominė ir socialinė raida, ekosistemų stabilumas bei kitos. Tačiau, kaip teigia kompozitorius, meninis tyrimas atskleidė netikėtą perspektyvą. Pagal vieną iš realistiškiausių Jungtinių Tautų prognozių šio amžiaus pabaigoje pirmą kartą per ilgą laiką istorijoje žmonių populiacija pradės mažėti, keliant visai naujus iššūkius visuomenėms.

One More Billion Problems? ø Music Autumn 2024
The recipients of the Government Culture and Art Award, the Chordos string quartet, present a unique creative project – an immersive work by composer Matas Drukteinis, combining sound and visual media, unfolding in the special acoustics of the Liepkalnis water reservoir.
The work One More Billion Problems? invites a journey through the history of modern humans (Homo sapiens sapiens), from millennia before our era to the near future, observing the changes in the Earth's population. At the end of 2022, the Earth's population surpassed 8 billion. By exploring the constant growth of human numbers, the composer sonically interprets the historical, present, and potential future processes influencing these trends, revealing the changing environment, societal structures, technological, and other factors.
The work also draws attention to and highlights today's challenges, specifically related to the extremely large human population: food and drinking water supply, balanced economic and social development, ecosystem stability, and more. However, as the composer notes, the artistic research revealed an unexpected perspective. According to one of the most realistic United Nations forecasts, by the end of this century, for the first time in a long time in history, the human population will begin to decline, posing entirely new challenges for societies.

As the world stands on the brink of the widespread dominance of artificial intelligence, which may reshape societal structures, with scientists warning that we are nearing the "red line" beyond which the damage to the climate will be irreversible, with the global population surpassing 8 billion, and the Doomsday Clock ticking closer to midnight, it is clear that global challenges could alter our future and everyday lives at any moment. This year's "Muzikos ruduo" festival, from an anthropological perspective, explores issues that are relevant to the entire world or specific regions. How do we see, respond to, and understand these threats and the future of humanity? And why, despite being aware of the magnitude of these dangers, are we unable to unite to save the world?
