Grupinė paroda FACE TO FACE – tai kvietimas susitikti su šiuolaikiniais Afrikos ir Pietų Amerikos tapytojais akis į akį, atidžiau pažvelgti į menininkų vaizduojamus veidus, atpažinti juose slypinčias kultūrines nuorodas, vizijas, pasaulėžiūrą.

VEIDAS nuolat reaguoja, suteikdamas užuominų apie emocinę ir fizinę būseną. Tai – turtingiausias neverbalinio bendravimo įrankis, pagal kurį žmonės dažniausiai atpažįstami ir identifikuojami. Būtent todėl daugelyje pasaulio kultūrų veidai šimtmečius būdavo vienaip ar kitaip modifikuojami, naudojami lyg drobės saviraiškai.

Kaukės, dažai ir skarifikacija – priemonės socialiniam statusui ar rangui perteikti, kultūriniam tapatumui, priklausymui tam tikrai grupei ar bendruomenei išreikšti, arba, priešingai, tapatybei maskuoti.

TUMO galerija parodoje FACE TO FACE pristato devynis skirtingus menininkus, devynias skirtingas žmogaus veido vizijas ir devynis skirtingus šiuolaikinės visuomenės suvokimo modelius.

Group exhibition | FACE TO FACE | 20th of January – 5th of March 2023

Group exhibition FACE TO FACE is an invitation to encounter contemporary African and South American painters and take a deeper glance at the faces portrayed to understand the language, cultural backgrounds, and worldviews inscribed on the canvases.

The FACE is constantly reacting, giving clues about the emotional, and physical state. It’s the richest source of nonverbal signs for human social communication, something people are most often recognized and identified by. Having this quality to transmit information, the face becomes a subject to be altered and therefore change the way the individual is perceived by others.

Face paints, masks, and scarification were used as social markers to convey social status or rank, to express cultural identity, to indicate membership in a particular group or community, or, on the contrary, to camouflage identity.Faces are being used as canvases for self-expression in many cultures around the world for centuries.

TUMO Gallery is presenting nine different artists, nine different visions of the human face, and nine different perceptions of contemporary society.
